Kaltjiti Arts

Excerpt from article in Art Monthly by Carolyn Wilson, who manages the cross-cultural project at Kaltjiti Arts whereby Aboriginal designs are executed by Kashmiri craftspersons: 'Anangu prefer culturally appropriate work if they are to maintain their traditional konwledging and communal integrity while pursuing a new career path and economic opportunity. The notion of mass-producing or manufacturing a standardised item is foreign to Anangu traditional.' This is an interesting example of the way design and craft can engage cultural collaboration.
