By hand publication

A new publication from Beijing based authors argues that handmade processes are playing a leading role in visual arts today. BY HAND: THE USE OF CRAFT IN CONTEMPORARY ART is edited by Shu Hung and Joseph Magliaro and is published by Princeton Architectural Press, 2006

This is a contemporary survey of things hand sewn/made that are of an experimental nature. From books to T-shirts to toys, the pieces in this volume define an alternative view of contemporary art/design. From Kiki Smith's lovingly etched birds to Barb Hunt's knitted land mines to dynamo-ville's one-of-a-kind puppets to Evil Twin's hand-stitched publications, today's art revels in the care and consideration of craft-based practise.
