The world of gangsta rap seems highly sensationalist and tied to fashions of language and issues. A review of a retrospective anthology of Californian rap band N.W.A places the genre in a historical perspective. A review in the Los Angeles Times claims that there are qualities in their 1989 releases that outlive their relevance to the street. The quality they refer to is c___t:

Now that nearly two decades have passed since "Compton," it's much easier to marvel at the solid craftsmanship involved in N.W.A's work
