Here's a note from acting Director Kirsty Lacy about a new ceramics prize:

I am delighted to announce Shepparton Art Gallery is launching an inaugural Indigenous Ceramic Art Award boasting $33k in prizes. Applications open today when forms can be downloaded from the gallery's new (and still developing) website at www.sheppartonartgallery.com.au , or by request to email: icaa@shepparton.vic.gov.au.

Applications for the 2008 Sidney Myer International Ceramic Award in association with La Trobe University also open today, see our website or contact email: sidneymyerica@shepparton.vic.gov.au for further information.

The Indigenous Ceramic Art Award was developed by Shepparton Art Gallery to support Indigenous ceramic artists and acknowledge the special industry of ceramic art practice. The awards encourage and stimulate excellence in this sphere, providing cultural exchange opportunities for Indigenous artists from around Australia and regional Victoria. The first of this biennale exhibition will be launched at the gallery on Friday 14th December, 2007 showcasing the very best Indigenous ceramic art from remote Australia to the urban and regional centres.
