Fresh! 2008 winners

On Thursday night was the opening night of our last exhibition for 2008. In its 15th anniversary, The Filippo Raphael Fresh! Award ushered in yet another new wave of emerging talent. Craft Victoria is proud to announce Li Ka Ho as the winner of the Filippo Raphael Fresh! Award, a hearty congratulations to you Ka Ho! Having just completed his Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) at RMIT University, Ka Ho's exquisite works of art reinterpreted mourning jewellery into a contemporary object through the use of teflon tape (or plumbing tape).

Winning the Sofitel Melbourne/Global Art Projects Exhibition in a Public Space Award was Tobi Clark, (Bachelor of Design (Fashion) (Honours), RMIT University) for her Tyvek clothing. Tobi will collaborate with Sofitel and Global Art Projects and present an exhibition at the Sofitel Melbourne in 2009.

The Third Drawer Down Product Development Award went to Aly Aitken (Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art - Painting), RMIT University) of the marvellously disconcerting sculptures made from burnt Christmas tree stumps and leather. Debuting for the first time, the Third Drawer Down Award offers a beautiful partnership with one of Melbourne's most successful design companies.

And finally, the Screaming Pixel Professional Photography Portfolio Award was awarded to Amanda McKenzie (Bachelor of Fine Art (Glass), Monash University) for her stunning still life work made from glass.

A big congratulations to the other exhibitors at Fresh!: Alyshia Boddenberg, Valissa Butterworth, Sarah Deed, Robert Dumaresq, Crystal Dunn, Stephanie Martin, Chloe McColl, Timothy Smullen and Kate Vivian. It is no small feat to participate at Fresh!, congratulations again to all of you. We look foward to the amazing things that lie ahead for you.

Images of the exhibition will be up soon, so keep checking over the next few days.
