Studio visit: Hand Drawn House

This week is very special - we have not one but two studio visits for you to pour over! For our second studio this week, CLOG visits April Craft Hatch-ling Alice McKellar of Hand Drawn House.

Working from her studio housed in a discreet building in Chinatown, Melbourne, Alice's second-floor space features amazing natural light which no doubt comes in handy for the tons of screenprinting that she does! When we visited Alice was a busy bee, working on several projects including a new line of tote bags (which will be debuting at tomorrow's market!) and a giant printed doona cover for her sister Laura.

A graduate of RMIT's Advanced Diploma Textile Design & Development AND Diploma of Art(Screen Print), eco-conscious Alice launched Hand Drawn House shortly after where she prints her unique designs onto only organic and fair trade cotton and linen.

In addition to her textiles range of pillowcases, linen tea towels and linen loop scarves, Alice also prints birthday and greeting cards on 100% brown post consumer recycled card and uses similarly produced envelopes. All using water-based inks of course!

Hi Alice! Note the super nifty use paint cards in the background...

Keep an eye out for these generously sized tote bags tomorrow!

Sturdy + eye-catching print = perfect accompaniment to grocery shopping.

To see Alice's work (and meet her in person!) plus so much more, Craft Hatch is on tomorrow at the City Library Gallery, Level 1, 253 Flinders Lane from 11am to 4pm!
