Westspace Pong Tournament: today!

Laith McGregor, Pong Ping Paradise
Nothing screams Christmas Party quite like a ping pong tournament on an artist designed tennis table, with some bevvies and nibbles in an Art Gallery. It’s the Westspace Christmas Party and whilst we can pretend it’s all about celebrating this festive season, everyone really knows it’s all about the pong. Laith McGregor exposed himself as he mapped his thoughts on paper to make up the artwork that acts as the base of the table. This is not an elitist artwork bound by ropes for people to view at a distance, stare at for hours with mysterious eyes, whilst scholarly mumble jumble is thrown about. The piece is explorative, interactive and accessible, as visitors are welcomed to engage as they pop bat to hand ready for battle. The supporting wall of blackboard paint re-iterates this communal process, as people write, mark and doodle freely with chalk.

The nitty gritty: The party will happen from 5-8pm down at Westspace Gallery, Level 1, 225 Bourke Street Melbourne. The evening will even feature an exclusive Christmas special in the form of an Andrew Sinclair and Scott Mitchell installation piece. But most importantly... The table tennis tournament will commence at 5.30pm. But remember, you must REGISTER by 5pm!
