cycle disintegration report pt.2

With Sea Pinnacle and Colony almost fully disintegrated, only Cellular Form stands strong... or more like leans strong!

It's the last day of the exhibition, which means its your last chance to come see this exhibition before it completely disappears! And then afterwards, why not take a stroll down Flinders Lane and pop by Craft Hatch at the City Library from 11am to 4pm. See you there!

cycle disintegration report

As of last week (and post-aftermath), here is what's happened to Liz Low's unfired pieces since being submerged in a bucket of water at last Tuesday's water pouring ceremony.

They're disappearing before our eyes!

The aftermath!

As you may all remember, Tuesday evening marked the second phase of Liz Low's exhibition cycle and it was the night of Liz's water pouring ceremony. All of us had our own theories on how fast or slow the unfired works would disintegrate, and fortunately (?) we didn't have long to wait before the action started!

Here's what happened within a mere hour of the pouring a bucket of water into the tanks.

Colony didn't fare too well in terms of holding it all together!

You can just make out the first signs of disintegration at the base of Sea Pinnacle

Read all about it!

The lovely and very articulate Daniel Neville, author of The Theory of Nevolution blog has written a most wonderfully insightful review of CVHQ's current exhibition roster featuring Simon Lloyd, Natasha Dusenjko and Liz Low.

Do have a read! It's really very good. Thank you very much for this review Daniel.

In other news, Karen of Melbourne Jeweller blog dropped by CVHQ sometime last week to say hello, talk blogs and visit the exhibition (of course). Karen has also reviewed Natasha's exhibition babel and it too is another splendid read.

As we all know, good things come in threes and Soren from Buro North design studio has also written a post about babel in the Buro North blog.

Be sure to check these blogs out. It's always lovely to read about ahem, yourself isn't it?

And we promise there weren't any bribes involved... we swear!

Water Pouring Ceremony: 'before'

On Tuesday evening a very special event was held - the water pouring ceremony that marked the second stage of Liz Low's current exhibition in Gallery 3, Cycle.
As many of you are already aware of, throughout May Liz has been dilligently coming in to work on recreating the exhibited works Sea Pinnacle, Colony and Cellular Form. We did a rough count of the approximate number of hours Liz has spent on her wheel and the number comes up to an astounding 76! Perhaps what we should have also counted was the number of coffees consumed...

Here are the finished reproductions sitting in their (dry) tanks:

There was a great turnout and it was lovely to see Liz's family, friends and fans come together and show their support at this very special event!

For the first pour, Liz invited guest speaker (and former CV curator!) Kate Rhodes, who is currently editor at Artichoke magazine.

Our curator Nella Themelios was invited to assist in pouring water into the second tank...

And to end things on a sweet note, the final pour was reserved for Liz's husband Nick.

After all that pouring and celebrating, we're sure you can't wait to see how the works have fared in water. Here's a tantalising teaser photo...

Stay tuned for an update on the aftermath!

cycle (day 21)

After many, many hours in Gallery 3, last Thursday (day 21) marked the final day of Liz's production.

The final touches were made...

And to top it all off, a big beaming smile from Liz!

We will miss the comforting hum of Liz working at her wheel and her chattering guests, but we can't tell you how much we're looking forward to the outcome of the Water Pouring Ceremony tomorrow evening at 6pm. We bet you're curious too...

Water pouring ceremony

For the past month, Liz has spent over 70 hours in Gallery 3 meticulously re-creating the sculptures that are part of her current exhibition 'Cycle'.
Now, this Tuesday evening, the second phase of Liz Low's exhibition cycle will be launched. Liz will pack up her studio and prepare the works she has made over the past weeks for their subsequent disintegration. Water will be poured over the unfired clay sculptures constructed in-situ, inaugurating their slow demise.

Join us and guest speaker Kate Rhodes (editor of Artichoke magazine) tomorrow evening at 6pm for the special water pouring performance and the official launch of the cycle exhibition catalogue.

We might even have a chilled glass of white wine waiting for you!

cycle (day 20)

And for something a little different today, here's a look at Liz's inspiration wall...

...and look! Well well well, what do we have here... the cutest doggy ever?
